Even though I’m personally not into mutants or any of the X-Men books or films, I will say that X-Men: First Class was one of the better comic book movies of recent years.
That plot line in the film where we see Magneto as a 1960′s era James Bond assassin was hot.
One of the things that made that movie work was director Matthew Vaughn and now Deadline is reporting that Vaughn is back for the sequel:
Fox has just closed a deal with Matthew Vaughn to come back and direct the sequel to X-Men: First Class, with Simon Kinberg writing the script and Bryan Singer back as producer.
What would be the storyline for the sequel? Vaughn told HitFix last year:
“I’ve got some ideas for the opening for the next film. I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto. That would explain the physics of it, and we see that he’s pissed off because Kennedy took all the credit for saving the world and mutants weren’t even mentioned. And we could go from there, and I’ve got some fun ideas about what other mutants to bring in. I don’t want to tempt fate, though. If the film’s a hit, of course I’d be interested. I really enjoyed making it.”
What mutants will Vaughn bring back? Who knows. I will keep my ears open as I remember breaking some of the cast when the first film was being made.
