Guillermo del Toro Will Direct ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Warner Brothers has inked a deal with Guillermo del Toro to direct their live action big screen adaptation of the classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast. They are also close to signing on Harry Potter’s Emma Watson to play Beauty in the film.

In addition to producing and directing, del Toro will write a treatment for the film. Andrew Davies, who most recently wrote The Three Musketeers, will base his script on del Toro’s idea.

It looks like del Toro is finally back in to directing full time. He’s working on his robots vs. monsters movie Pacific Rim and will move onto Beauty once Rim is finished. His last directorial effort, Hellboy II: The Golden Army was released four years ago in 2008. He was originally set to direct the Hobbit films for Peter Jackson (del Toro will receive a writing credit on both), but left the projects due to the seemingly endless delays.

Are you happy Guillermo is finally back behind the camera? I think he’s a good fit for this. If anyone can turn Beauty and the Beast into a beautiful Gothic fantasy film, it’s him.

I wonder if this means Ron Perlman will get another shot at playing Vincent?

Christophe Gans is directing another Beauty and the Beast film for producer Richard Grandpierre. Read my article on that film here.

2 Beauty & the Beast movies…. AND 2 TV shows? Have they heard of over-saturation??

Now this could be interesting! Be great if the 80s tv show version had some kind of appearance though, maybe get Ron Perlman back as Beast, in what ever form Del Toro makes him.
