DreamWorks Plans for Remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Rebecca’

DreamWorks and Working Title Films are planning to remake one of Alfred Hitchcock’s classics for this generation.

According to Variety, the studios plan to remake the psychological drama “Rebecca,” which was directed by Hitchcock as his first American project in 1940. The film won two Academy Awards, including Best Picture for that year from a total of 11 nominations.

It is a gothic tale based on a novel by Daphne du Maurier about an aristocratic widower Maxim de Winter, his new wife and housekeeping staff being haunted by the memory of his dead first wife.

The remake script will be written by Steven Knight (“Eastern Promises”), who will try to adapt more to the original book.

Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce for Working Title.
