Honestly, I already wrote about the Victor Hugo I care about today.
Now that the honesty is out of the way, I don’t need to hide my disdain for everything else about this story. Tom Hooper, who is a fine director but got his ass-kissed for The King’s Speech which was a serviceable 2 character drama not THE SOCIAL GODDAMN NETWORK, decided his next project would be a new adaptation of Les Miserables with Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette and Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert….something something Anne Hathaway too.
The Daily Mail, a factually untrustworthy site, has some first-look photos of Crowe and Jackman on set that they acquired by using their vast photo budget to purchase paparazzi spy photos from services like Flynet. Pair up with some nonsense story about how Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman are getting along and let the gossipy hit mongering begin!
If you don’t know what the story of Les Miserables and you’re over the age of 15 – AND you’re reading this post – what’s wrong with you? I hate it (the story) but don’t mind the music (the musical) and even though I try to avoid it most days I keep feeling like I’m constantly assaulted by adaptations and musings from people that want me to say it’s good.
It’s fine. See the show, read the book, or just wait until this movie comes out, it might just be the blandest version of Les Miz we’ve seen in awhile.
Feel free to tell me I’m angry and bitter below.
