Warner Bros. Grabs ‘Playboy’

Warner Brothers has taken over production of Playboy. The film tells the story of the magazine’s founder Hugh Hefner. Longtime Warner guy Jerry Weintraub will be producing for the studio. Weintraub has produced a lot of films for Warner including George Clooney’s Oceans trilogy.

Originally the film was to cover Hefner’s entire life. Starting with his strict upbringing, the founding of his magazine, thorough his participation in the civil rights movement up to his current status as… An old guy who likes to date 22 year old women? Hefner has had a long and interesting life that will probably make a decent film if the right talent is involved. There’s no word on whether the film will tackle Hefner’s entire life, or just a select few years.

Some time ago Brett Ratner was attached, as were Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman. Now, however, it seems they are starting from scratch and looking for a writer.
