At the invitation of Queen Elizabeth, Daniel Craig made a visit to Buckingham Palace that ended with him agreeing to portray Britain’s most famous fictional spy not just in Sam Raimi’s Skyfall, but for the opening ceremonies film being directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire).
Word is that Boyle, Craig and crew were given “unprecedented” access to The Queen’s private rooms at Buckingham Palace while filming a short where Bond gets assigned to open the 2012 London Summer Olympics, helicopters to the Olympic village and then parachutes into the arena.
Though reports are silent on if The Queen will make a cameo in this short, as a James Bond fan myself and knowing that 2012 is Bond’s 50th anniversary, I think we can safely expect the Union Jack parachute from The Spy Who Loved Me. Just seems fitting.
The Olympics run in London from July 27th to the 12th of August.
