The Tracking Board brings word that Darren Aronofsky has cast Jennifer Connelly in his new movie Noah. Connelly will play Naameh, wife to Russell Crowe’s Noah. This will be the first film Aronofsky and Connelly have worked on together since she starred in his Requiem for A Dream.
Noah is a passion/dream project for Aronofsky. It is very much the biblical epic audiences would expect from a story that involves the world being destroyed by a flood, but it will also take a nontraditional turn in the story. Many historians believe Noah was a drinker and liked his wine quite a bit. This aspect of Noah’s life has been glossed over, or completely ignored, in past films and TV versions of his story. Aronofksy will not exorcise this from his film.
Filming on Noah is set to begin this summer, so expect other casting bits to start coming out. Word is Saoirse Ronan is close to signing on for a supporting role.
