Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer Meet The Leaders of The Navajo Nation On ‘The Lone Ranger’ Set

There are some new pics from the set of The Lone Ranger, which you can see below. The shots feature Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer along with leaders of the Navajo Nation.

Here’s Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly on his meeting with the actor:

“Depp was very gracious and respectful, along with very patient with picture taking. It was a great honor and privilege to meet Johnny Depp and filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer. We are honored the movie The Lone Ranger is being filmed here on the Navajo Nation. The Navajo Nation has beautiful landscape and we are glad it is being shared through filmmaking.”

The actors, as well as director Gor Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, we’re given Pendleton blankets as a good-will gesture on behalf of the Navajo Nation.
The Lone Ranger hits theatres May 31, 2013.

    I guess that makes it okay then — “No, we’re not really hiring a Native-American for Tonto, but if you don’t complain too much, we’ll let you shake Johnny Depp’s hand…”  I guess celebrity has its perks after all.  (No, don’t start with the “Depp has some Indian blood” jazz…I’ve read the interviews with him, he isn’t even sure what tribe he’s supposedly related to.  Besides, if I’m a Caucasian guy with .05% African-American blood in my ancestry, does that mean I get to play Shaft or Luke Cage?  Didn’t think so…)

    Yes there were killings but that doesn’t change the end result, Wars are made up of deaths we can’t be forced to make amends to the basic fact of war.  The indians were the weaker side of the battle.  You don’t lose a game and then demand the winner share his glory.  Countrys have been fought over since the dawn of time and the losers don’t have any right to lost land.

    And as for blacks, Last time i checked they are not slaves anymore, they’ve had over 150 years to make something of their freedom, If it’s living in poverty then they only have themselves to blame.  That’s the choice they made.  you don’t see any white people in the ghetto’s but you do see them in schools..It’s a choice not a curse
