Robert Rodriguez Lines Up ‘Fire and Ice’

Anyone who can make one movie over the summer can make two, or if you’re Robert Roriguez, you can make three. I reported yesterday that Roriguez plans on directing Machete Kills then moving onto Sin City: A Dame to Kill For as soon as Kills is done, possibly even before, leaving someone else to finsh directing duties on Kills if necessary. Now, as if he weren’t busy enough, Rodriguez wants to jump into Frank Frazetta’s  Fire and Ice as soon as he finishes Dame.

Here’s what he told The Hollywood Reporter about Fire and Ice:

“We’re almost done with the script; we’ve got it pretty much 70 percent there. I’m really excited about that one.

“The whole idea is to make it using the technology I used for Sin City because I want it to be as if you stepped into one of [Frank Frazetta’s] paintings

“I think the timing is going to work out just right, and we’ll have a finished script in the next month or so. So we can start lengthier preproduction and we can go right into preproduction — well, we’re actually in preproduction, sort of, or we’ve been doing a lot of the previsualization. But that would be the next thing after Sin City.

“I’m really excited about that. For Frazetta fans, this will be the ultimate tribute to what he did, and inspired so many people. I think it’s going to be pretty powerful when people see it.”

I wasn’t crazy about Machete when I first saw it, but I have revisited it on cable a few times since and with lessened expectations, it’s not too bad. It’s still heavy on plot, but its not terrible. I’d be interested in seeing Machete Kills on DVD, unless the Mel Gibson rumors pan out, then it’s a must see in the theatres.

I’m defintely psyched for Sin City 2. I watched the first one again recently and it definitely holds up.

I’ve never seen Ralph Bakshi’s original Fire and Ice, but I plan on changing that.
