Actor Tyrese Gibson was present at CinemaCon 2012 to promote the Sprite’s Films contest at the convention.
Latino Review was present the press conference, in which he made the first announcement on his new movie role to star as the famous R&B singer Teddy Pendergrass.
“I’m actually going to play the role of Teddy Pendergrass,” he happily announced. “It will be my first time ever sing in a movie.”
Theodore DeReese “Teddy” Pendergrass was an American R&B and soul singer and songwriter. He became famous in the 1970s as the lead singer of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes and then went solo towards the end of the decade. A car accident in 1982 left him paralyzed from the waist down and he started Teddy Pendergrass Alliance to help those with spinal cord injuries. The singer died in 2010.
Also during a press conference, he was asked if he was coming back to the Fast & Furious franchise.
He tried to defuse the question with humor by saying, “I happen to do catering for films. I just hope they would book me for that and we’ll see how it works out.”
“The film is definitely in motion and I’m not locked in officially, officially yet,” he continued on a serious not. “Paperwork is on the table and we’re figuring it out. I wouldn’t want the franchise to go on without me. We’ll just see what happens.”
