Pulitzer Prize winning author Cormac McCarthy recently wrote his first original screenplay, titled The Counselor. It’s about a lawyer who only wants to get slightly involved in the drug trade, but finds out it’s not exactly a part-time job.
As expected when a modern literary master decides to pen a movie, Hollywood came knocking. Director Ridley Scott quickly signed on to direct and then just as quickly signed on his Prometheus star Michael Fassbender for the title role. Now, other parties are interested in joining the fray.
Oscar winner Angelina Jolie is in talks with Scott to take a small role in the film, which is a good thing. Why? Well, Fox is in discussions to co-finance and distribute the film, but only if there are some good A-list names (like Fassbender and Jolie) above the title. So let’s hope Scott gets the actors he wants, which I’m sure he will.
I’m really looking forward to this film. McCarthy is one of my favorite writers of all time. If you haven’t already read one of his books, do yourself a favor and correct that mistake.
