Outkast’s Andre 3000 Is Set To Play Jimi Hendrix In ‘All Is By My Side’

Is it just me, or has a movie about Jimi Hendrix taken forever to get off the ground? It seems like every couple of years another actor is announced for the lead and production is almost underway until it stalls or disappears completely. Now, it seems it may finally be happening.

The Irish Film & Television Network (IFTN) is reporting that Outkast member Andre 3000 (née Andre Benjamin) is set to star as Hendrix in All Is By My Side.

The film will be set in 1966 and 1967 and cover the period in which Hendrix was discovered in a New York club by Rolling Stone guitarist Keith Richard’s then girlfriend Linda Keith. She subsequently introduced Hendrix to manager Chas Chandler who brought Hendrix to London in 1966, where he recorded his debut album ‘Are You Experienced’ and had his first taste of success. Over that period – 1966 to 67 – Hendrix went on to formulate some of the greatest guitar-driven records ever made.

The film will shoot in and around Ireland with production expected to start in three weeks.

This will be 3000′s second lead role in a film. His first was in Idlewild, which he starred in alongside his Outkast partner Big Boi. 3000 has also had supporting roles in Will Ferrel’s basketball comedy Semi-Pro and Guy Ritchie’s Revolver.

All Is By My Side will be written and directed by John Ridley.
