Just to be safe, I’m going to preface this with a SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes, then DO NOT read further. I will be spoiling the end of the movie.

There, you’ve been warned.

The end of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (which will heretofor be referred to as “Rise”, because that title is too damn long) the apes had risen, and a plague was about to wipe out humanity. The movie, in my opinion, was great, and, in fact, left the door wide open for a sequel. Humanity is ending and the apes are ready to take over. Who better to rewrite the Rise sequel than the writer of Contagion?

Scott Z. Burns, the writer of Contagion, has been tapped to rewrite the Rise 2 script. Orginal Rise writers Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa have written the first draft, but, as is the norm in Hollywood, everything must be rewritten.

Andy Serkis is set to reprise the role of Ceasar and Rupert Wyatt will be directing again.
