Oh Ridley Scott. I’m convinced this is your clever way of spoiling what the goo in the Prometheus trailer is:
“Ironically, here we are over 30 years later and I think you might not even argue it’s a prequel. Once you start into the evolution of the story, it moves so far away from Alien that there’s only the mere DNA of the original in Prometheus.”
But that’s not what we’re here to discuss.
The Daily Beast has an interview with Scott himself where he brings up some tidbits on his other projects people want him to do. Ridley Scott has a TON of projects on his potential slate. A. TON.
Who knows if his version of Monopoly is still floating around?
The focus of the interview is Scott’s use of strong female leads (Ripley to Thelma & Louise to Noomi Rapace in Prometheus) and uses that as a jumping off point to talk about his upcoming projects with female leads which surprisingly includes Blade Runner 2:
And your next project, after the Cormac McCarthy adaptation, The Counselor, also boasts a strong female lead.
I’m working on a project with Angelina Jolie called Gertrude Bell, which is a very interesting period piece of a woman in the 1900s whose tramping ground was very much part of Mesopotamia, which we now know of as Iraq. She’s involved with a person called King Faisal, and she was partly instrumental in seeing him to the throne of Iraq. She’s an important political figure.
What about the rumored Blade Runner sequel?Funny enough, I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week. We have a very good take on it. And we’ll definitely be featuring a female protagonist.
Which sounds…just fine with me.
I’m curious if Ridely Scott watches the Total Recall remake trailer and is like: “Damn, that’s what I wanted Blade Runner 2 to look like.”
