Daniel Radcliffe Wants In On Del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’

Guillermo del Toro was speaking via satellite link at Cannes and dropped some details on his upcoming Pinocchio film. He said he will be co-directing the 3D stop-motion film with Mark Gustafson, but we already new that. You can read LR’s article on that here. The real news is that Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe is interested in the film.

Per del Toro Radcliffe contacted him “to get involved in the project”. It’s safe to assume Radcliffe wants to voice Pinocchio. Del Toro also mentioned he would like to have Tom Waits and Christopher Walken lend their voices to the film.

Pinocchio is an Italian fairytale written by Carlo Collodi about a man named Geppetto who makes a wooden marionette named Pinocchio who he wishes into existence one night. Once he is alive Pinocchio wants nothing more then to be a real boy. It’s a great story full of adventure and magic and it gets quite dark in places. Disney’s animated film is probably the most famous version of the story, and also, in my opinion, the best.

This project seems tailor made for del Toro’s film making sensibilities and it will be interesting to see what he does with the material. Having Radcliffe, Waits and Walken in the cast will only add to the film.
