Possible ‘Iron Man 3′ Plot Details, Additional Casting Emerge

Chinese actor Andy Lau (his IMDB fact is that he’s made, like, over 100 films in the past 20 years, but this will be his first “Hollywood” one) has posted an update on his casting in Iron Man 3 as some sort of scientist.

Actually, they are much more specific as to what type of scientist. Making much ado about how much screen time Lau will get and seemingly confirming Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin by explaining that the character will differ greatly from the comics version to keep the Chinese happy, the post also reveals the casting of Chinese actresses Bingbing Fan (as his wife in the film) and Yang Mi (as his assistant).

As if that wasn’t enough news for a casting post, it dumps a bit of the plot on us:

The film will have location shooting in Beijing and Shanghai, it will narrates that the daughter of Robert Downey Jr.’s friend was kidnapped and brought to China, in order to save his friend’s daughter, he flew over from America to China to seek help from Andy to strengthen his abilities to fight The Mandarin. You will see Iron Man fly over The Great Wall of China, National Palace Museum and other landmarks in Shanghai, the film is expected to hit the cinemas in May 2013.

So – Boom. Lau is some sort of scientist who has his daughter kidnapped and helps Tony, possibly with Extremis. Well, someone is going to help Tony with Extremis.

While we’re looking at theories of how this fits in with other reports...and theories… I’d have to say that kidnapping a scientist’s daughter to force him to make an Extremis weapon out of Eric Savin sounds like a very Mandarin thing to do.

Then, luring Iron Man to fly over and save his daughter, Savin beats Iron Man but Tony saves Lau. Tony and Lau adapt Extremis to Iron Man… I’m starting to see how this could all work out.

dumb, dumb, dumb….I’m part chinese and I want the mandarin Chinese.  After all the crap that poor blind chinese guy went thru, we’re appeasing those ass clowns.  Again, I’m part chinese and I think portraying the mandarin as he truly would be is not to far from the truth of my distant countrymen.

Why not just keep the Mandarin Chinese and remove away the racist element? Shit, Use Chow Yun Fat, loved him in Pirates of the Caribbean at worlds end. But enough with the changing race character shit

and therein lies the problem, the Chinese government wasn’t really fond of that depiction and I think banned POC in their country.  What’s Disney really hoping for….less pirating of their film or sales because their currency isn’t worth anything except for the fact that they have the cheapest most capable labor force(I’ve worked with them as vendors) in the world.  Is it the fact that they’re going on the cheap for production work or do they need the authenticity of filming scenes in China.  Why bother with the Chinese backstory at all.  Just film in India and call it the country they filmed the first Iron Man.

Actually the Chinese box office is a boomin. It’s kinda like black mail. If you portray Chinese as villains Ala The Dark Knight… Ur film gets banned! no money from the hungry Chinese film-goers. If you portray the Chinese as goody 2 shoes, you not only get priority access but extra incentives :) Artistic vision be damned!
