Now that he’s off ‘BioShock,’ ’28 Weeks Later’ writer/director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is on the hook to direct a ‘Highlander’ franchise reboot for Lionsgate/Summit and – apparently having learned nothing from ‘Blade: Trinity,’ ‘X-Men: Origins: Wolverine’ ‘Green Lantern’ and the forever-stalled ‘Deadpool’ – they seem psyched for Ryan Reynolds to be in it.
Variety reports Ryan Reynolds’ people are “in talks” but an offer hasn’t been made and Lionsgate/Summit are all really happy because technically Reynolds has nothing lined up right now, as ‘Safe House’ does okay for itself.
So, all “the people” are happy. I’m sure Ryan Reynolds isn’t stressing the decision too much.
‘Highlander’ is, of course, the Christopher Lambert movie. It had guys with swords and there could only be one of them, but it ironically spawned a bunch of sequels and a TV show. I haven’t seen them. I might see this, because I like Ryan Reynolds despite his sci-fi/fantasy/superhero track record.
