Variety reports Dancing With the Stars alum and Extra correspondent Ashley Hamilton has been cast as Jack Taggert/Firepower in Iron Man 3.

For those who don’t know, here’s a brief intro to Firepower from the Marvel Wiki:

“Jack Taggert worked on Project: Firepower as the pilot for the experimental suit. The government sponsored the program stating that it was for soldiers in the next war, and to control rogue super beings; when in reality it was to stop riots. Jack trained on a simulator learning to operate the suit and take down Iron Man.”

Basically Iron Man fights Firepower, gets his ass kicked, runs home to Stark Industries, comes back with another suit and kicks Firepower’s ass.

Hamilton comes from Hollywood royalty being the son of George Hamilton and the stepson of Rod “I was only good when I sang with Faces” Stewart. Oh, and he’s also a close personal friend of Robert Downey Jr.

Iron Man 3 began filiming this week for a theatrical release on May 3, 2013. Shane Black is directing from a script he wrote with Drew Pearce.

One last thing, the Variety article never actually mentions Hamilton’s character is Taggert , even though Taggert is the one who pilots Firepower in the comics. So it’s possible they altered Firepower’s origin a bit for the movie.
