Variety reports Michelle Pfeiffer is in talks to join Malavita. If she signs on Pfeiffer will  costar with Robert De Niro in the Luc Besson directed film.

Malavita is based on the novel Badfellas by Tonino Benacquista. It tells the story of a mafia family that joins the witness protection program and is forced to relocate to France. While there they attempt to live a normal, legitimate life, but we all know how that tends to work out. Pfeiffer will play the family matriarch who’s a bit of a pyromaniac when cornered.

In addition to directing, Besson is also writing and producing. Malavita is scheduled to start shooting in August for a release sometime next year.

I used to get excited about a new De Niro film, but that ended many, many years ago. I wish he would just retire and stop tarnishing his legacy with crap movies. I’m not saying Malavita will be bad, I’m just playing the odds based on De Niro’s recent films.
