DJANGO UNCHAINED: EMERGING ARTIST CONTEST

Your Chance to Inspire Quentin Tarantino

The Weinstein Company and Red Bull North America are excited to announce an online contest for emerging filmmakers with Quentin Tarantino at the helm. Quentin has charged filmmakers with the challenge to “find your own voice,” and has exclusively harnessed the power of Red Bull Media House to help get the word out.

Starting June 15th, contestants will have the opportunity to inspire Quentin Tarantino with their own original content.  Contestants will have two weeks to create and submit an original multi-media piece that will be viewed and judged by Quentin and his team.  The piece must be a maximum of three minutes in length and incorporate footage from either the official Django Unchained Trailer, or from one of three of Quentin Tarantino’s favorite spaghetti westerns that inspired the creation of Django Unchained.  Included in these are: (DJANGO, Sergio Corbucci (1966), THE GRAND DUEL, Giancarlo Santi (1972) and DAY OF ANGER, Tonino Valerii (1967). In addition, contestants must include a musical track from one of Red Bull Records featured bands including: platinum recording artist AWOLNATION, the UK’s breakout artist of the year Twin Atlantic and dance chart artists Innerpartysytem as a part of the pieces soundtrack.

Starting today contestants can log-on to www.Redbullusa.com/django for more detailed contest information and to register as an official contestant.  Beginning on June 15th all contestants and fans from around the world will be able to view EXCLUSIVE Quentin Tarantino content as well as see the esteemed director speak to the inspiration behind DJANGO UNCHAINED, his love of spaghetti westerns and the magic of cinema as well as give advice to emerging artists.

The one lucky winner and guest will get the chance of a lifetime to meet Quentin Tarantino at Comic Con in San Diego, CA after filming is complete for DJANGO UNCHAINED.  The runner up will receive authentic Django Unchained memorabilia and other prizes and a Red Bull Fan Pick prize will also be awarded.

Get Creative, but use my footage. Thats not creative, its rearranging. Ron Howard did the same “inspire me” thing with his Imagin8on project, but he let you make any photograph you wanted. Also the Dark Knight Rises t shirt contest made you at least paint or draw original artwork.

True. I know…it’s bullshit and he knows it.

     No respect for editing?

  • myclawismypenis

Thats what i was thinking…editing can make or break a movie, episode.

  • Ericjanke

DEBATE TIME!! WOOHOO!!!! Editing is extremely important, but its still not creating to inspire, its taking someone elses stuff, and cutting it down. Hes seen the footage, its his favorite movies. How can I inspire someone past something he already adores, when I cut out 3/4s of the movie.?

  • myclawismypenis

You dont think that they way someone edits material  can inspire someone?

  • Ericjanke

Hes got his own style, a very unique one at that. I hate these things, because its just like the art teacher you had in middle school. You made something that  you were proud of because it reflected your personality, and your medium for creativity. Then the teacher comes along and grades based on her skills and her creative passion. Thats bullshit.

  • Ericjanke

No I dont, but thats just my opinion. But dont let my opinion stop you from trying and winning, right?

  • MrGoyaOhBoya

You do realize that every emotional moment you feel in a film is CREATED by editing, right?

Have you ever seen dailies (unprocessed, raw footage) from a film? It looks NOTHING like the language of film that you are familiar with. It’s just miles of footage with errors, bloopers, alternate takes, ad-libs, unsused lines, abandoned plot points and it’s completely out of chronological order. Editing is what shapes and sculpts that mess into a cohesive, satisfying story.

Even if the challenge required you to make your own short film, it would still require editing to tell the story, pick the best takes and sync the footage with a soundtrack. All three of those vital aspects of moviemaking are accomplished SOLEY by editing.

BUT, how many aspiring first-time filmmakers have the resources or time to make a film from scratch? Not many. By giving everyone the same source material, every entry can show that contestant’s ability to tell a story through the power of film and it puts everyone on the same playing field.

As the old saying goes, the last draft of the script is the final cut.

So, if memento was played in sequence in the movie theaters..it would have had the same effect?

  • myclawismypenis

Well, thats the problem with anything involving creativity and taste…if it appeals to the majority its considered worthy. If not, then its a memento on the shelf or wall.

Did anyone here actually go read what the contest even is?! You are not re-editing his trailer like this article suggests, but instead are submitting completely original short films that include footage, which could be very little, of his movie trailer in some sort of way.
