Universal Nears Deals For ‘Kick-Ass 2′ Returning Cast

‘Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall’ is going to shoot in the fall, or that’s what all signs point towards.

The first Kick-Ass got independantly financed for a few mil shy of $30 million and ending up grossing a few mil over $100 million, so it’s easy to see why Universal would step up to back the Jeff Wadlow (‘Cry_Wolf’) written and directed sequel.

The property is going to be based partially on Mark Millar’s HitGirl miniseries and partially on the Kick-Ass 2 miniseries, which is troubling for a comic fan because only one of those was good.

Millar is obsessed with keeping “Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall’ as edgy as the first, so he’s done stupid things like keeping an unnecessary gang rape in the film.

That’s neither here nor there.

The GOOD news being rumored today by Deadline is that Aaron Johnson – who played the title role in the first film – is thinking of returning. Which is very surprising. Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are also rumored to be close to reprising their roles (Moretz as Hit girl again and Mintz-Plasse will be ‘The Motherf*cker’ this time around).

Also surprisingly – someone has suggested Nicholas Cage might come back for a cameo.

All of these are rumored deals, not locked in, but it’s certainly a stronger returning cast than I expected given that there were no sequel deals put into place, the comic was pretty middle-of-the-road and Matthew Vaughn isn’t coming back.

Could ‘Balls To The Wall’ surpass my admittedly low expectations?

Millar’s a complete douchebag. His “Kick-Ass” comic wasn’t very good. There was a lot of bullshit in it that thankfully didn’t make the film. I am very concerned about his involvement in the sequel. Fuckin’ idiot that guy.

Is it going to be unnecessary in the context of the script??? How do we know? If they take the motivations seriously (McLovin’s world is fucked after all) and shoot it as the dark nadir of his character as opposed to exploitation it could serve as a a catalyst for both Red Mist and Kick-Ass. I’m interested in what they do with an admittedly horrible and vile moment.

We’ll all find out I guess…

I am a Millar fan because he has written some of the best Marvel comics, such as The Ultimates which inspired The Avengers, but the Kick Ass comic was mediocre compared to the movie. Occasionally Millar takes it too far and despite the source material the Kick Ass movie was great! Here’s to hopes for a good sequel, just drop the gang rape scene please.

While I dont exactly share Henrys crudity or sentiments exactly, Kickass the comic was vastly improved on with the movie, a very odd thing to have happened. Big Daddies story made a LOT more sense and a lot more poignant by totally rewriting his backstory, the whole crime lord angle was a lot better by making it more personal and quite frankly, only around 20% of Millars story survived. Kickass 2 was a very very misogynistic comic and won’t be a good movie if they do a straight up translation. I hope for a similair situation, a script that vaguely resembles and improves upon the source material. Is that a more reasonable way to put it myclawismypenis? (Im not being a smartass, just asking?)

No, for the most part I agree. Millar’s taste is sometimes questionable, especially in his unrestricted creator owned world…and we all know that they will have to taper it down.

Definitely. There could be a scene where she gets beaten by Mother Russia maybe, but raped is just completely unneeded.
