Will Lord and Miller Conjure ‘Carter Beats The Devil’?

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the duo behind Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street, are eyeing Carter Beats the Devil as their next live action project.

Carter is currently set up at Warner Brothers and is based on the book by Glen David Gold. Ever since it was published in 2001 the novel was a hot topic in Hollywood. At one point Tom Cruise was attached to star when it was at Paramount.
The book is set in the 1920s and tells the story of magician Charles Carter, or Carter the Great. He is said to be a master illusionist who’s skills exceed that of the Houdini. During a performance Carter performs an illusion on President Warren G. Harding and the president later turns up dead. Carter is blamed and must go on the lam to clear his name.
With Carter Lord and Miller will add a period adventure film to what is shaping up to be a very diverse resume. They will begin working on the film once they have finished working on a CG Lego movie for Warner.
