Colin Farrell Joins ‘Saving Mr. Banks’

Colin Farrell is joining the cast of Saving Mr. Banks.

The film tells the story of Walt Disney’s 14-year courtship of Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers to allow him to adapt her work into a film. Eventually she relented, but wasn’t pleased with the result. Travers disliked the animated sequences so much she didn’t allow Disney to adapt any if her other books.
Farrell will play Travers father, who was the inspiration for the Mr. Banks character in Poppins. Travers’ father died when the author was seven and much of Mary Poppins was based on her hardships and her relationship with her father.
Farrell will join Tom Hanks as Disney and Emma Thompson as Travers. John Lee Hancock is directing from a script by Kelly Marcel.
