First Look At Tom Cruise As Jack Reacher!

Scroll down to get your first look at Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher, “an ex–military policeman turned vigilante drifter, who finds himself drawn into the case of a sniper who randomly targeted civilians.”
The movie is based on the novel One Shot by Lee Childs.
Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) wrote and directed the adaptation and had a few things to say about the character and the film to Entertainment Weekly:
“He is an extremely pragmatic, matter-of-fact person. He’s very solitary, but he can’t walk away from a situation that needs to be made right. His own sense of right and wrong tie into that situation and he can’t leave until it’s been resolved. That’s his Achilles heel.
“He is free from any sort of anxiety. He is truly not encumbered by all the bulls–t that makes up our daily lives. He literally and figuratively has no baggage.
“Someone asks him at one point in the story about the difference between a military policeman and a regular cop. Reacher points out that [for military police], every suspect is a trained killer.”
You can catch Jack Reacher in theatres December 21st.

This sounds an awful lot like a twist on Drive…plus drifting

you had me at Christopher McQuarrie….yep I’m sold.

I really don’t understand why anyone sees this guys movies anymore. This sounds terrible and I am sure he will over act and just make the movie cheesy and laughable.

That looks good, I don’t know anything about this character? so far I have read on this website about his character and it looks like great movie!!

  • A_Wise_Man

Cruise is a veteran actor and can make crappy films good. See Knight and Day.

  • AICN_Douche

    Ah, the old Reach(er) arounder…

    Read all the books.
    Cruise is no Jack.
    But, whatever, it’s a business…
I’ll see it, and enjoy it for what it is.

BS! He ruins more movies than he adds to. I didn’t see Knight and Day because I have testicles but I can think of a bunch of movies that would have been better without creepy Cruise overacting in them. Last Samurai and Minority Report come immediately to mind. Both would have been Way! better with a different actor in the lead.

  • A_Wise_Man

Your insane. next you will tell me MI is overrated.

I was thinking the same exact same thing. This Reacher guy sounds a bit like Driver

  • A_Wise_Man

Im sure it will be a good film but it seems a bit unoriginal.

  • Philip Sticco

I think Cruise saves most of the movie he’s in. Say what you will about him, but he always brings 110% and never walks through a role like most actors half his age.

  • A_Wise_Man

Exactly this random dude is crazy, most actors could wish to have only half his talent.

  • myclawismypenis

Well, he has a right to his opinion, even though we dont share it. I respect Cruise for the effort he gives when he is involved in a project.

i didn’t see last samurai, because it looked cheesy all around, but i don’t understand what cruise had to do in minority report that could have been done better by a different actor. also, that movie is some fantastic sci-fi. tom cruise is such a mega star that if you have trouble separating stars from the roles they play, yeah, that’s a huge strike against him. he’s also one of those actors that people love to hate, especially men. can’t imagine why. i will say that i like cruise best when he’s playing against his type, which isn’t often. he was great in magnolia. i didn’t even realize he was les grossman in tropic thunder until the credits rolled, and he was hilarious. say what you will about eyes wide shut, but i liked it, and he brought the pathos. yeah, he may well be a delusional, scientology culthead closet case. maybe. but that has nothing to do with his acting cred.

MI 2 had way too many doves and ham-fisted ‘atmosphere’, but otherwise they are pretty great popcorn flicks.

That’s more of a reach than a Reacher. Expect big action, little character development. As in the development of little characters. ;)
