Variety is reporting that Luc Besson (Leon: The Professional) is set to write and direct an adaptation of Valerian.
From Variety:
Created by Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mezieres in 1967, the graphic novels turn on the adventures of space- and time-traveling agent Valerian and femme sidekick.
Besson is a longtime fan of Mezieres and even enlisted him as a conceptual designer on The Fifth Element.
Next up for Besson is Malavita, a dark comic crime thriller which shoots in August and stars Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Tommy Lee Jones. After that Besson has an action thriller set to film in early 2013, this one will star Angelina Jolie.
What’s this all mean? It’s going to be a while before we see Valerian on the big screen.
