UPDATED: ‘Man Of Steel’ Will Get 3D And IMAX Post Conversions

UPDATE: Ain’t It Cool News is reporting they received an email from Warner Brothers denying the IMAX 3D conversion. According to the email, which you can read by clicking here, IMAX made an inputting error. So, Man of Steel will be released in IMAX, but will not be getting a 3D conversion.

Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel, will get post converted to IMAX and 3D. I’m actually a little surprised by this, because I thought Snyder was filming in 3D. I know he shot some scenes in IMAX, but apparently they’re being converted as well for The IMAX Experience.

Do you seek out 3D? Personally. I avoid it whenever possible. I haven’t seen a film yet, including Avatar, where I thought 3D added to the experience. For me it will always be a gimmick to charge higher ticket prices.

Here’s the Man of Steel synopsis:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Man of Steel hits theatres June 14, 2013.

“Do you seek out 3D?” No, but I’ve got no other choice. It’s either 3D or not watching the movie at all in cinema over here. Thatswhy I rather buy BluRays nowadays. Its insane that they’re only like 2-3 euro more expensive then a freaking ticket.

3D? REAL 3D just barely adds to the experience for maybe the first 15-20 minuts of the film. Post conversion 3D is CRAP! Period. Always will be.
That synopsis is friggin HORRID! I hope to God some Marketing tool who knows NOTHING about the film wrote that.
If this movie has any of SUperman’s Origin it better be in the first 5 minutes of the film. I’m SICK of reboot origin stories! Please give me an original comic book movie that is NOT an origin besides Avengers!
Also I don’t like the sound of this “alienated by powers beyond his imagination” business. Please God don’t copy the first two seasons of SMALLVILLE where Clark just wanted to be normal and didnt want Superpowers!
Making Clark an “angsty youngster” does NOT make him “relatable” i don’t care what the Producers and studio execs think of today’s youth. Today’s teens don’t think Superman is relatable because they have no positive rolemodels anymore. Reality stars and Pop Stars are not rolemodels to me.
Anyway, there is ALOT riding on this film for DC. they need to take their time and get it right.

If the movie isn’t shot with 3d cameras or imax cameras to begin with, I don’t pay to see post converted shit. That was why Avatar was brilliant…because it was shot with 3d in mind. I definately will be seeing Man of Steel, but it will be standard.

    i. hate. sad. superheroes.
    kill. them. all.

  • myclawismypenis

Oh god “shakes head” why. IMAX 3D takes away from just showing it in awesome IMAX.

  • myclawismypenis

Who here is giving people negative ratings because we all know that post conversion 3D is worse than a lame one legged whore that just got back from the dentist office.

To this day, i don’t understand the hatred for 3d! i really don’t! I love it! call me crazy, but i purposely seek out 3d when ever i can because i find it adds to the experience. Hell i just bought a panasonic 3d plasma and love watching older films on dvd and blu ray CONVERTED TO 3D! and feeling like I’m actually there.

THAT SAID: i do think 3d works best when viewing the film a 2nd time and not always the first time. I think there is a major issue with 3d where your watching a film for the first time and are getting caught up within the story, that 3d takes a backseat to the the story being told, and thats why unless its a heavy action scene or what have you, people tend to forget there watching 3d in the first place!

Also, the 3d at home on my tv, is WAY BETTER then any 3d I’ve seen in any theater so far. Idk what it is, but it feels like it has a much deeper depth in the picture then I’ve seen in the theaters. Idk, maby i just go to shitty move theaters.

As for the whole conversion argument, its a mixed bag IMHO. i prefer if a film is going to play in 3d they shoot it in 3d, but i think the major issue the studios are having with that is that it takes longer to edit and tweak the film in native 3d, then to simply shoot it in 2d and just convert a final cut of the film a few months before it is released.

Again, it all depends on the quality of the post conversion. TITANIC 3D looked amazing, as if it was shot natively in 3d and we all know for a fact it wasn’t. Other films, look crappy

Ive seen some films where it was converted so poorly, that the On the fly 3d conversion on my tv, did a better job then the “official 3d version”. So go figure

With all that said, i enjoy 3d, and hope it grows and evolves, and once they manage 3d without the glasses and don’t carge insane prices for a ticket, i think you will win a ton more 3d fans then they are now!

So he really shot scenes with IMAX?? I’m terribly confused, people saying it wasn’t, people saying it was.
