J.J. Abrams is producing Earthquake for Universal and has hired Dustin Lance Black to write the script. Black won a well deserved Oscar for his screenplay for Milk. He as also written J. Edgar for director Clint Eastwood.
Before you think this is a remake of the Charlton Heston flick from the 70s, it’s not. The only thing they have in common is the title and the earthquake itself. This earthquake movie will be completely different than the other earthquake movie.
It also won’t be anything like San Andreas 3D, which is also about an earthquake in California.
J.J. Abrams has been talking about making this for three years now, so it is nice to see some movement on it. Black is a great writer and will, hopefully, bring something new and fresh to the disaster genre.
