NEW BITS

Bryan Lee O’Malley is the creator/artist behind Scott Pilgrim.

Meanwhile, Marvel is planning to re-jigger their current continuity with the new Marvel Now! line to deal with the events of Avengers Vs. X-Men (here’s the Wiki page that gets updated as we learn more details of NOW!).

Brian Michael Bendis (who has unblocked me on Twitter after Spider-Men #4! VICTORY!) will be writing “All-New X-Men” and the premise of this new team is that some X-Men from the past travel into the future and stick around because they don’t like how the future turned out. These traveling X-men? The original Stan Lee and Jack Kirby X-Men lineup of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Angel, Iceman and Beast.

Here’s what Bendis had to say to Newsarama:

“I’m a big fan of “Days of Future Past.” I think it’s one of the greatest imagination-inspiring storylines — the idea that your future is going to be hell on earth. If the original X-Men saw what was going on at Marvel today, this is worse than “Days of Future Past.”

Fans always say, “Oh, I wish Stan Lee was still in charge, things would be different.” Joe [Quesada] would point out that that’s not true. Stan was changing the Marvel Universe so quickly, much quicker than we do. Tearing up tracks, switching the Avengers, and blowing up the X-Men, and he was the first guy to do this. If Stan Lee was still in charge, you wouldn’t even recognize the Marvel Universe. So that idea inspired, “what would it feel like if characters from the Silver Age saw the Marvel Universe today?” I did a little bit of it in Avengers, in the Kang storyline. It’s obviously inspired a couple ideas in my work.

There’s something about Jean Grey, there’s something about those original five being such idealists, coming here and seeing what those ideals turned into for good or bad, and deciding to fight for them. I couldn’t get it out of my head. Inside that idea is a bunch of different ideas. The idea itself is the headline-grabber, but what people have to look forward to inside the story is much more. It’s a much more emotional story involving all of the X-Men, and that’s what’s going to be coming in future issues.”

Here’s the kicker – they stick around and become the new X-team. So, no pressure 20th Century Fox, but if you want to make ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ both ‘X-Men: First Class 2′ AND ‘X4,’ ya could.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Wait, I was looking for the new X-Men movie.
If you missed it, HERE is how this page came to exist on Latino Review.

But there is a new X-Men movie, right?
Yup. Matthew Vaughn returns to 20th Century Fox’s X-Franchise for ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ loosely based on the Uncanny X-Men storyline from issues #141 and #142.

But you still own the domain?
Oddly, yes. Bryan Singer has confirmed this is the title.

Oh, so this site is sort of still about that X-Men movie?
Yes! I’ll be jumping back on this post about every other day or so to add something X-related to it. Sometimes it will be links to our reporting on DoFP, most of the time it will be whatever I want to put up…at least until 20th Century Fox comes to get me.

Will 20th Century Fox come and get you?
Your guess is as good at mine. I have no idea why the URL for the full title of their movie wasn’t bought up with the rest of their domain buys in May 2012.

What do we know about the plot?
The comic has Kitty Pryde from a dystopian future send her conciousness back to Kitty Pryde from the 80s to stop a political assassination by a Brotherhood of Mutants run by Mystique. In the past, the problem gets fixed, but in the future everyone dies. It looks like the dystopian dimension still exists even after things are fixed in the past, but let’s not think too much about that.

I mean the movie, dumbass.
Oh. Right. Singer suggested that the time-travel/multi-dimensional plot could allow this film to intersect with other, pre-existing films in the series.

…and that means?
Hugh Jackman will be in this movie as Wolverine, almost certainly. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Rebecca Romijn are likely cameos as well (especially since Magneto is only in the future storyline in the comics AND a good guy so who wouldn’t want to put Evil Fassbender in a room with Gandalf…I mean Magneto…but Good Magneto, so basically Gandalf).

So Magneto is going to time travel?
We don’t know. I’m curious as to who is going to be doing the traveling. You might have noticed Kitty Pryde wasn’t in ‘First Class’ (played by Ellen Page in ‘X3′ and two different nameless actresses in her ‘X-men’ and ‘X2′ appearances).

Will Ellen Page be back? How about Halle Berry?
Hey Look! HitFix has an excellent gallery about the cameos from the original series THEY want to see (CLICK HERE!). I most agree with bringing Cyclops back, so we can all forget how he was killed off screen in X3.

Time travel sounds cool, but it also sounds like something that could make continuity difficult to track.
Truth. But could ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ actually help Fox right their spotty continuity across X-Films? Comic Book Movie says the 5 key factors are Sentinels, Kitty Pryde, Mystique, the First Class cast and Cyclops. I disagree with most of this, but maybe you’d want to check it out anyway.

Is this a sequel to First Class or is this X4?
This is a sequel to First Class.

Do YOU have questions?
