Mark Wahlberg and Liam Neeson Are Wanted for ‘Neuromancer’

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is trying to get a film based on Neuromancer by William Gibson off the ground. Director Vincenzo Natali is on to direct and di Bonaventura wants Mark Wahlberg and Liam Neeson for the leads.

If they sign on Wahlberg will play Case and Neeson will play Armitage. Both actors will receive pay-or-play deals, meaning they get their checks whether or not the films actually gets made.

Here’s a rundown of the plot from Moviehole:

The book that launched the cyberpunk generation tells of Case, “the hottest computer cowboy cruising the information superhighway–jacking his consciousness into cyberspace, soaring through tactile lattices of data and logic, rustling encoded secrets for anyone with the money to buy his skills” and how he ends up double-crossing the wrong people, and has his talent burnt out of his brain, “micron by micron”. Case is “Banished from cyberspace, trapped in the meat of his physical body” until he is offered a second chance

Natali is finishing up Haunter and will then move onto Neuromancer.

Thanks to LR reader Clint Morris for the heads-up on this one.

    This is really bad casting.
Case is supposed to be a skinny junkie. Armitage is supposed to be a genetically modded warhorse. Neither match.

yeah, I dont see MW playing a such a character, but thats typical casting these days.

I remember the days when rumor was Chris Cunningham was gonna do this. This is supposed to be cool and subtle and now it will be a big blatant shoot em up. They’ll fuck this up like they did Johnny.
