Either Sony thinks they have a great film in White House Down, or having Channing Tatum as the lead has given them a shot of confidence. The studio has decided to move the Roland Emmerich directed action flick from November 2, 2013 to the prime real estate of June 28, 2013. That means it will open over July 4th weekend and go up against The Internship and R.I.P.D.
The film is about a secret service agent (Tatum) who must rescue the president when a paramilitary force takes over the White House. This is one of two White House set action films to recently get a green light and fast track to the screen. The other is Olympus Has Fallen starring Gerard Butler. The move will also give Down more room before Olympus, which doesn’t yet have a release date.
In addition to Tatum, White House Down also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jamie Foxx, James Woods and Richard Jenkins.
