Jose Padilha is Having A Hell of A Time With ‘RoboCop’

The Daily Blam! has some reports from the set of the RoboCop remake, and it’s not looking too good.

Director Fernando Mereilles (City of God) is friends with RoboCop director Jose Padilha and said his friend described working on the film as “hell”. Mereilles goes on to say the studio is rejecting nine out of ten of Padilha’s ideas and Padilha is constantly arguing with the studio and he’s getting bitter.

Never fear though, Merreilles still thinks RoboCop will be a good film. Of course, if you read Drew McWeeny’s Twitter review of the script, you may have some well justified misgivings.

Lastly, The Daily Blam! gives us a rundown of RoboCop‘s cast list, and there’s an interesting name on it: Peter Weller.

Is Weller returning for a cameo? Does he have a larger part? Is this just a misprint? I guess we’ll have to wait for a confirmation to be sure.

Thanks to LR reader Dario for giving us a heads up on this one.

I’m sorry to say, and I haven’t read McWeeny’s review, but this just feels to me like the new remake of Total Recall. Granted the originals of both films weren’t these amazing films that shouldn’t be touched, or retouched, but you might as well pull a Van Sant and redo them like he did with Psycho. At least I could enjoy them with modern effects and new actors and still kind of like it.

Total Recall was fucking amazing..You want a redo of these movies as Van Sant did with Psycho???? ..best joke all day.

  • Matt Shimon

Just to clarify, when you say “Total Recall was fucking amazing” are you referring to the Arnold version or the Colin version? Also, to clarify the Psycho comment, it was the best joke all day because it’s funny. Thank you for agreeing. Heh

Arnold version. Havent heard anything really interesting enough to motivate me to go see the newer version. I do wonder how far along they got with Aronofsky’s version(robocop)..was there a script, concept designs..that would be interesting.

Okay, I was hoping you said Arnold. I have a childhood mantle that a few stars from the 80s sit on, and his early films are lifetime favorites. I’m hoping I’m still as nuts about quoting movies like Robocop and Total Recall when I’m wearing a diaper and senile. When I saw the cast list for Robo-Reboot, I was stoked, but now it seems I’m getting flaccid again, just like when I saw the first trailer for Total Recall reboot.

Yeah, I hope they dont screw it up too much. Robocop is one of those that a re-boot wouldnt be that bad? maybe? not sure? hell, depends!
