Michael Bay Ends The Ninja Turtle “Merry-Go-Round”

I promised myself I wouldn’t elongate the original story any more with a third update, so I thought I’d swing by the site this Saturday morning and let Mr. Michael Bay defend his Platinum Dunes from me and ‘The Blue Door:’

Ok, Mr. Bay, I get it: You didn’t do any work on this Paramount-sanctioned draft of Inter-Dimensional Turtles. It might be bad, but it’s not Platinum Dunes’ concern because it was a script you rightly “shredded.”

Everything I’ve been saying about how the current draft is being written and now is the time to make our discontent known seems to be working out, because Shoot For The Edit’s forums have brought the man himself down to pat his children once more on the head, telling us to chill.

I plead ignorance to the details of Bay’s deal, but still say two things:

1. The leaked script that appeared very briefly on the internet had a 2012 date: not last year, but this year. But maybe Bay is right and this script wasn’t for Platinum Dunes but instead for Paramount, which makes me wonder:

2. Why was Michael Bay going around telling people that his Turtles were “alien” if ‘The Blue Door’ wasn’t the movie they were making? IS THERE ANOTHER ALIEN TURTLE SCRIPT?!?!?!? There must be, which means aliens aren’t off the table, which means I’m glad we’re all being fly-in-Bay-ointment at the moment.

Mr. Bay – I liked all 3 ‘Transformers’ films. I’m consistently mocked for it but ‘Dark of the Moon’ was the paramount of visual spectacle for the sake of it and I was 100% on board. You’re a director with vision, and even when I don’t agree with that vision, I can enjoy your movies.

We’re just people who like the Turtles telling you we didn’t like that thing I’m pretty sure you were going to do to the Turtles. Just don’t do it, please? It’s not like we’re going away. We, the fan audience, obviously can read dates on things and remember those things for longer than a year.

Its cool, though, bro. We’re all chill over here.

Do we all just want a good Ninja Turtles movie? Yes.

One more thought before I have a weekend, here’s Turtles’ creator Kevin Eastman and his quote about the new draft from August 8th 2012 (emphasis mine):

“I talked to [producer] Scott Mednick yesterday, and he’s seen the most recent 50 [script] pages and said it’s as good as the last version

so the film is cancelled now?

  • http://readitordont.com Da7e

Nope. It’ll still be released in 2014 for the TMNT 30th Anniversary. We just don’t know what this new script will be.

  • tonightsmeal

oh ok, I see. Well thats good, cause the world needs another turtles movie. As long as the script is solid and vanilla Ice is involved somehow

    “HE DID IT!!!1″

Sorry m gay after seeing what you did to Transformers with the 2 sequels…I know they were crafting a script to fit the pointless vulgarity that you love to inject into your newer movies.

they should just take what they are doing in the new IDW comic and put it on screen. its a good balance of original comic series mixed with cartoon. its amazing they have this right in front of them and are still trying to push this weird alien version of the turtles.

To be fair to Michael Bay, this does seem like producer dreck. It seems so atypical and topical that it sounds like this script came with a list of certain things to put in place before writing it, especially with the intention making it more like Avatar. Which as producers go with trends all the time doesn’t seem like Michael Bay’s fault. Would Bay make this problem better or worse? Maybe a little bit better, but would it be enough???

I really hope he sees that he screwed up Transfomers. Because I loved the first and many of his past films. Paramount is owned by $ony…so what they did is not surprising.

  • Steve Jones

Did u mean that Paramount is owned by Sony in a literal sense? Cause if so, that is not the case. Paramount is owned by Viacom.

  • A_Wise_Man

    No not literally.
