UPDATE: Sorry! Sorry! The woman in the banner above and the preview image for this post is NOT Rila Fukushima, but a woman that looks like the Frank Miller Yukio. Rila Fukushima looks like this:
The day we learn that you guys click on stuff when we put the content in the banner will be the day these miscommunications don’t happen (Rephrase: oops, my bad).
God help me, I’m the least Japanophile person you will ever meet. Obsession with animation aside, I’m sadly wholly American in my sensibilities. Which is why I’m of the opinion that the Claremont/Miller Samurai Wolverine comic story is mostly…boring.
That blashempy aside, I’m rooting for Hugh Jackman and James Mangold to bring ‘The Wolverine’ to life in an exciting way. They have to make “honor” visually interesting, I think. Then again, who knows how they’ve tweaked the story.
A set photo spy shot via CBM shows Japanese model Rila Fukushima in costume as Yukio. Who is Yukio? Thanks Wikipedia:
The X-Men’s first encounter with Yukio occurred when Wolverine had his struggle with Shingen Yashida, father of Wolverine’s girlfriend Mariko Yashida. At that time Yukio worked for Shingen, and one of her tasks was to kill Wolverine. Instead she developed a crush on him and subsequently aided him in bringing about Shingen’s downfall.
It looks like the film Yukio is going to have long red hair and not be sporting the skin-tight black bodysuit we associate with the character from the Wolverine Anime and her comic’s appearence:
