John Cho Says ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Is “Magnificent”

John Cho — Sulu in 2009′s Star Trek — talked with IGN about a few of his upcoming television projects.

As expected, the conversation steered towards the Star Trek sequel, due out next summer.

When asked how he feels about Star Trek Into Darkness:

“It was a lot of fun. I think the second one may be magnificent, baby. You can quote me on that. I think it may be amazing.”

On what makes the sequel different from the first:

“I think this movie is different from the first one in that we can get started on the story right away. It feels to me — having read it and having done it — like a more expansive story because we can devote more screen time to it.”

Cho even compliments cast newcomers Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve:

“They’re whip-smart, amazing people. They’re so good, such good actors.”

  • Matt Shimon

Ya, I’ve never heard of an actor in a movie soon to be released talk bad about said movie. However, after its release is another story…

Weird. He uses the qualifier “may” twice and then says “You can quote me on that.” I think they should put that right on the poster: “I think it may be amazing” -John Cho That’ll sell tickets.

Looking forward to it, especially to see Karl Urban again. He really nailed DREDD, what a fantastic film that was! My film of the year so far.

  • Matt Granados

Whoa, can’t wait to see Dredd.

  • Matt Shimon

Really? I enjoyed the shit outta that movie. I mean, it wasn’t aiming for any awards, but just like matthew mcconaughey’s Sahara I wanted MORE. Sadly, both flicks will not give me what I want.
