Pics – Joel Kinnaman Tries On The ‘RoboCop’ Suit

The RoboCop remake is in the midst of principal photography in Toronto, and this past weekend some onlookers snapped a bunch of pics showing actor Joel Kinnaman with the Robo-suit on, although for the most part it’s hidden under a black robe.

What’s the point of trying to hide what the suit looks like?  It’s already out there – and the initial reactions aren’t favorable.

The suit definitely looks inspired by the Nolan Batman suit.  This is no bueno – Batman should look like Batman, and RoboCop should look like RoboCop.

    I hate to say I hate this design, and it’s not just my love for the original, but a human/robot hybrid needs to look more robot than human. It not only helps sell the humanity of a machine, but it serves as a jumping point for a sympathetic character. The human Murphy is one character, and the hybrid Murphy is a complete other character in the film. So, Kinnaman is essentially playing two roles, but as an audience member I have a difficult time seeing it like that. Also, we need to see a visual integration of the Robo tech on Murphy. The original it was most evident when his helmet was removed and you could see the skin and metal sort of coming together. If they don’t do that here, it will just look like a man in suit. Stupid.

    I’m pretty sure the robe is just to cover up the costume from people trying to take pictures such as these. I doubt it’s actually a part of the suit.

    Hey look everyone, it’s ROBO-MONK!!! Catholic Cyborg Protector of “Stampeding Cattle Through the Vatican” and non purveyor of birth control. Robomonk must have bummed a cigarette off a gaffer. Look at his gloveless right hand closely. Reason for no glove is not cause he’s gonna start doing the robot or moonwalking, it’s cause he’s a smokeaholic. It adds to the human/android condition and DRAMA! He’s definitely not doing the robot. heh. Hell, he must be getting the shakes that this movie’s gonna suck. It looks like he’s thinking, “You know this part is gonna ruin me forever, got a light?” You would think since it is Roboslop that the sonofabtich would be smoking electronic cigs! What the hell Hollywood? Get some metal on him… Whoa, watch out it’s Robocop in some molded abs plastic! Hollywood will make the bullets bounce off paper if they had to. Get some metal on him. 2 movies that are gonna suck this and Lone Ranger cause the dicks wouldn’t get Brandon Routh as the hero. Damn.

    I thought that but then look at all the other pics of him gloveless, he’s in full costume bein filmed and still gloveless.

    I’m gonna hold reservation, everyone freaked over Dredd and the costumes etc but that film was fantastic!

    This material is used in every film now.

    Go with it, but make it look like a proper robot material. Yes, they’re right with what will eventually happen, but that will be FLESH colored. Robocop IS metallic (shiny), the current naturalistic acting robots tend to be white.

    So no nostalgia, and no realism. The audience’s only connection to this look is ‘superhero’. I hope this is not a window into a simplistic script.
