Sylvester Stallone Is A ‘Hunter’… Probably

There has been a lot of talk online over the past few years about Sylvester Stallone making one more Rambo film. Personally, I loved Rambo IV (or John Rambo, if you’re a purist like me) and would love to see another, and final, outing. That being said, I’d like to see Stallone keep Rambo in the reality the character was born in.

What am I getting at? Have a look at this synopsis for the novel Hunter by James Byron Huggins:

Nathaniel Hunter could track anyone, or anything, on Earth. Now the military desperately needs him for a mission that his ultra sensitive instincts tell him he should refuse. A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation. It is a job Hunter cannot turn down, but he soon discovers that his prey is terror incarnate, a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments. It has man’s cunning, a predator’s savageness, and a prehistoric power that has transcended the ages. And even if Hunter survives its unrelenting hunger for human blood, he’ll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.

It sounds like a great vehicle for Stallone, no?

Here’s my problem, there’s a rumor this may also be adapted into Rambo 5, which I am against.

Don’t get me wrong. I think Stallone is a great choice for Nathaniel Hunter, but I don’t want to see Rambo as Hunter. Rambo has always existed in the real world. Yes, he is given to acts of hyper violence, but that’s okay. I expect that from him. I do not, however, want to see Rambo chasing after some sc-fi super monster. And this is coming from someone who loves a good monster movie

Please, Mr. Stallone, give us Rambo 5 AND Hunter, just don’t combine them into one flick.

    This rumor was circulating like two years ago and Sly came out and said he was going to tackle human trafficking in Mexico instead, then he said Rambo V was off. Now this is back again?

    Rambo V (currently titled Rambo: Last Stand) and Hunter are both happening…and as separate films. Hunter is up first and should be his next once he finishes work on The Tomb. Rambo V’s script is still being finalized. He had previously given up on it, but a writer came along with a take that interested him. Now it’s back on and it will be the final Rambo film, with Stallone hinting that the character might not survive the events of the film.

    Sounds like Rambo vs Predator, which is cool in my book!
    I’m a die hard Rambo fan, have been since i was a kid. And while First Blood is my number-1 (Rambo 2, was as a kid= more explosions and a cool Bow.) I would say that Rambo-4 is now my number 1. I just love that movie, its brutal! Points out the atrocities carried out on the Karen people of Burma, and the villains are real nasty, which makes Rambo’s vengeance all the more sweeter. Although Rambo didn’t do as much stealth or one man army stuff, I liked the Mercs that came along. That sniper and the bald guy “You ladyboy c*nt!” were great additions.

    I agree with the post though, I like how Rambo left the films, in the real gritty world (non sci fi)
    And I’d welcome a 5th as long as it was set in the real world, and is as brutal as John Rambo was. But 4 finished on a high, so i wouldn’t wanna see that ruined.

    The Hunter sounds like a great flick though, and hell, Sly is still in shape so go for it. (just hope its not a witty banter kinda film with catchphrases)

    Theres still room for sci fi & Rambo though, maybe ( Rambo vs Commando vs Predator- The musical?)

    Comments to my comment lead me back here. Let me also go on record as saying that Rocky IV was my favorite (Rocky steeped in 80′s over-the-top-ness against the backdrop of the cold war during the HEIGHT of the cold war? Genius). But Rocky Balboa is my favorite in the series now just as John Rambo is in the Rambo series. They were like two magical moments that felt like they were made just for me. The Expendable could have been a trifecta, but he just missed the mark with it (I still liked it though).

    Yeah, what’s the source here? That bit of business with his renewed interest in Rambo V was speculated on a year ago, but I’ve heard nothing sense.
