Jennifer Hudson Leads A Revolution In ‘Winnie’ Trailer

The trailer for Jennifer Hudson’s Winnie hit the web earlier this week. See her show off her African accent and lead a revolution in the clip below.

The Winnie trailer has been around for a few days now, but just in case you had not seen it, we have it for you.

Winnie is a biopic of Winnie Mandela, the wife of Nelson Mandela and a key figure in the anti-apartheid struggle. She is a figure of much controversy and has been, at various points in her life, convicted of kidnapping, fraud, and theft.

Hudson plays the activist while Terrence Howard takes on Nelson Madela.

The film is directed and co-written by South African filmmaker Darrell Roodt. Andre Pieterse and Paul L. Johnson also helped write the screenplay, which is based on the biography written by Anne Marie du Preez Bezdrob.

There are a few powerful moments in the trailer, especially from Hudson. At one point she’s seen shamelessly yelling over an angry crowd. At another, she’s badly beaten and broken down. Still, those elements don’t save it from feeling like a made-for-TV movie, which is a shame because you have two very talented actors. Also, the African accents are very distracting.

Winnie has no distributor yet.

Way to insult the Africans. This movie is trash.

People have a right to their opinion, but I like the new 2 minute trailer. I will also support this movie when released in the United States, I feel some racism against this movie and it’s stars.
