Universal Yanks Control Of ’47 Ronin’ Away From Director Carl Rinsch

As if weeks of re-shoots (not pick-ups, mind you, but complete re-shoots) delayed by the Olympics in London, and a bloated budget up to the $225 million dollar mark weren’t stressful enough – now Universal Pictures has taken complete control of 3D samurai epic 47 Ronin away from director Carl Rinsch.

Carl Rinsch has been locked out of the editing bay of his own film.

Universal co-chairwoman Donna Langley will serve as the film’s key creative captain, as the post-production team scrambles to finish a release-ready final cut.  Although the film’s release date is over a year away – December 2013 – Universal is trying to put a stopgap on the insane amount of money that’s being put into the film.

Keanu Reeves stars in the film amongst an almost all-Japanese cast.

Wow. That’s something. Honestly I didn’t even know this had been filmed. Is this gonna have the same cloud around it that Superman 2 or Highlander 2 had where years later we’re getting Director’s Cuts? Okay, fine. Highlander 2 was a bad comparison.

Is all this because of his editing of the film. Plus, why give someone such a huge project as their first major studio movie( is that correct..he only done some short films)
