I can’t say I’m surprised by this. Directors make a long term committments when they decide to make a film, and sometimes it gets longer than they intended and they have to move on. This is the case with Ed Zwick (Glory) and The Great Wall. Originally filming was going to start this year, but weather and budget issues helped to push the start of filming to next year forcing Zwick to leave.

Set in 15th century China, Great Wall is about British warriors who happen upon the hurried construction of the massive wall. As night falls, the warriors realize that the haste in building the wall isn’t just to keep out the Mongols — there is something inhuman and more dangerous.
Henry Cavill, Benjamin Walker and Zhang Ziyi are still attached to star.
