UPDATE! ‘End of Watch’ Takes the Weekend

UPDATE: Well, it looks like the final numbers are in and there is a clear, albeit close, winner. End of Watch has taken the weekend with $13.152 million. Not bad for flick that only cost $7 million. House at the End of the Street comes in at number two with $13 million, and Trouble With the Curve stays in third with an actual weekend gross of $12.1 million.

And now back to our original post, some of which is now moot…

Why didn’t anyone go see Dredd 3D this weekend? I’m sure a lot of LR’s readers did. Like us you’re movie geeks and know a good comic book flick when you see one. However, considering it only opened to $6.3 million a lot of people skipped it, and that’s a damn shame. I went to see it and loved it. It’s dark, gritty and extremely violent. Karl Urban erases every memory of Sylvester Stallone.

Okay, I’m done. Let’s get to the top five.

The number one movie at the box office was…

Here’s the thing, both End of Watch and House at the End of the Street are claiming the top spot with $13 million. We all know the chances of both movies having the exact same gross are pretty slim, so we’ll have to wait until actuals come out today before we can say which film has the rightful claim to number one.

In the third spot this week was Trouble With the Curve. The Clint Eastwood vehicle grossed $12.7 million dollars. That’s no great number for Eastwood, but his movies usually hold their own at the box office. You see, the older crowd Eastwood attracts doesn’t feel the need to run out and see his films on opening weekend.

Finding Nemo 3D took number four this weekend with $9.4 million. That’s a 43.4% drop from last week. The Pixar rerelease has banked $29.9 million so far.

And finally at number five is last week’s number one, Resident Evil: Retribution. The fifth flick in Milla Jovovich’s franchise scored $6.7 million dollars in it’s second weekend of release for a rather hefty drop of 68.2%. It’s total gross is now $33.4 million.

Have a look at the chart below for the rest of the top ten and be sure to check back for an update on which film was actually number one.

1. End of Watch $13.152 million
2. House at the End of the Street $13 million
3. Trouble With the Curve $12.1 million
4. Finding Nemo 3D $9.4 million
5. Resident Evil: Retribution $6.7 million
6. Dredd 3D $6.3 million
7. The Master $5 million
8. The Possession $2.6 million
9. Lawless $2.3 million
10. ParaNorman $2.2 million

Dredd was fantastic! Come on America, get yo selves to the cinema to see it! Guarantee you won’t just see it the once. Its the Robocop-1 of the new generation! Its the 80s film Expendables wants to be. We need sequels damn it!

I partially blame the 3D, i know a few peoplw who get headaches from 3D so they only see the 2D showings. But Dredd 3D has very few of those. Spread the word folks. Its brilliant and of all the movies this year, its the one that has earned my money the most. So much better than the trailers make it look.

Same goes for CA. Living in the midwest for most of my life spoiled me when it came to manners in a theater. When I moved to CA, it opened my eyes and my irritations to all the little fu*kers that cant keep their mouth shut or their phone off during a movie.

  • Steve Jones

A few folks I spoke to had no inclination to see it, until I suggested it to them because they didn’t like the Stallone version. But some seem to think that is what Dredd is..some actually thought this movie was a sequel lol. i was like really that was 17 years ago.

  • myclawismypenis

    I agree….bro. :)

  • ANTI Douche

    Totally agree.
Went to HS & College in CA…
Nothing as annoying as sitting in an Edwards…
    Listening to punks jibber jabber…
No cell phones back then… Yup, I’m old.
Course I’m big, build and shaved of head…
So I’d go say ‘shut up’ and they did… Still…
Takes one out of the film…
Fashion Island by Newport Beach, where I lived…
Was the best, quiet and respectful audiences…
