Elysium, Neil Blomkamp’s new film, was set for a theatrical release on March 9, 2013, but Sony has decided to push it back to August 1, 2013. What does that mean for the RoboCop remake, which was originally set for that date? It means it gets bumped to February 7, 2014.
Elysium stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and District 9‘s Sharlto Copley. Blomkamp writes and directs the “sci-fi epic, set on a space station occupied by the very wealthy while the rest of humanity lives on a ravaged, overpopulated Earth.”
Why did Sony bump RoboCop to 2014? No reason was given. The Hollywood Reporter mentions the move will give more time for post-production, but also states that isn’t the true reason for the move.
Sony also announced Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers will open September 27, 2014.
Lastly, the live-action/CG animated Pixels, originally has been taken off Sony’s 2014 schedule with no new date given.
