Mark Millar Talks ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’

Mark Millar is out and about and talking about his buddy Matthew Vaughn’s sequel to X-Men: First Class, titled X-Men: Days of Future Past. If you’ve read the comic than you know it involves time travel, but what else can we expect from Vaughn and his team? Millar has some answers. I’m going to slap this with a SPOILER ALERT just in case.

Millar:

“Vaughn is going for a big sci-fi style thing with X-Men: Days of Future Past.

“It’s X-Men meets The Terminator.

“You’ve got robots, you’ve got time travel, you’ve got superheroes – it’s got everything in one film.

“Cost-wise it’s going to go up, and ambitious-wise it’s gone up. But Vaughn can handle it. Vaughn made Kick-Ass for $28 million.”

This all sounds great to me. First Class was worlds better then what I was expecting. It just hit all the right notes. I do, however, still think X2: X-Men United is the best X-Men film.

    i’m still in shock that they chose this story. i would have said fox would never risk such a detailed plot with such a sci fi tone. does this mean kitty will be back?? and i agree with sticco- first class turned out to be pretty awesome, but so far x2 is still the one i come back to the most. i hope this is truly the start of much bolder comic to film fare.

    Going with Days of Future Past was indeed a shock and a surprise to the fans …especially the comic book fans who know the story inside and out. I never would have thought we’d get an adaption of that material. I just wished they had done the Dark Phoenix saga the correct way instead of what we got in X3.

    my hands balled up into fists in the theater when i saw what they did to jean and the phoenix. they might as well have scrolled the words “we hate the x-men, and we hate you” across the screen.

    My guess is that they aren’t going to need or want everyone from the first X-Men films to return. I imagine Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, and Hugh Jackman would be part of the Future storyline (as they are the main attraction of the first trilogy) with adult actors playing some of the older First Class characters in the Future. Almost everyone else from the first X-Men movies could be written out by saying they were killed just like in the comic. The studio also hinted back when this was announced that they figured out a way to make the incongruities between the original franchise and the First Class franchise work and that will probably mean using Days of Future Past as a Star Trek-style soft reboot. The original X-Men franchise becomes Original Trek and First Class becomes a JJ Abrams Trek alternate timeline due to whatever they end up doing to change the future.

    I hope the X-men gets the recognition and success it deserves, equal to the Avengers (if not more) with this new movie.

    that actually makes a lot of sense, and i think it’s a good way to go if it’s true. god knows it’d be great to leave the events of the third movie in some alternate reality and get the phoenix back. maybe that doesn’t mean we’ll get those movies, but i’d rather that horrible abbreviated version never happened.
