Ridley Scott Confirms ‘Blade Runner 2′ and Talks ‘Prometheus’ Sequel

In an interview with the U.K.’s Metro Ridley Scott talks about Prometheus 2 and confirms a Blade Runner sequel is happening, which I thought he already confirmed a while ago.

Here’s the Prometheus 2 info:

What made you want to tackle sci-fi again?
I hadn’t done sci-fi for so long and  I enjoyed doing it. Plus, when it comes to the Alien world, no one else had addressed the origin question and I thought that was interesting to tackle. Prometheus evolved into a whole other universe. You’ve got a person [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] with a head in a bag [ Michael Fassbender’s David] that functions and has an IQ of 350. It can explain to her how to put the head back on the body and she’s gonna think about that long and hard because, once the head is back on his body, he’s dangerous.

So that’s the sequel?
[Laughs] I wish it was that easy. They’re going off to paradise but it could be the most savage, horrible place. Who are the Engineers?

I loved Prometheus, flaws and all, and can not wait for the sequel.

And now Blade Runner 2:

There is a rumour you’ll be making a Blade Runner sequel.
It’s not a rumour – it’s happening. With Harrison Ford? I don’t know yet. Is he too old? Well, he was a Nexus-6 so we don’t know how long he can live [laughs]. And that’s all I’m going to say at this stage.

So there you have it, we’ll be getting sequels to both Blade Runner and Prometheus.

What do you think? Audiences were a bit divided on Prometheus, but I think there is an overall desire to see the story continued.

That comment on Blade Runner 2 is very interesting.
“With Harrison Ford? I don’t know yet.” It could mean they already have a story (if not script) in mind with Deckard returning. I do recall reading (probably here) Sir Ridley Scott mentioning something along the line of wanting to have Harrison Ford come back.
“Is he too old? Well, he was a Nexus-6 so we don’t know how long he can live [laughs]. ” Well, here he’s basically confirming that it won’t be unnatural to have Harrison Ford in his 60′s (I think) coming back!
These comments could be a bigger hint to what’s coming than Sir Ridley Scott had intended!

Harrison Ford should at least show up in the sequel, if only in a cameo, but the “star” needs to be someone who can carry a movie in a fairly understated kind of way like Ford did. Maybe someone like Chris Evans (I’m thinking about his performance in Sunshine rather than Avengers) or Ryan Gosling would be good. And don’t go down the road of making the main protagonist female just for the hell of it – save that for the Alien (Prometheus) franchise.

He’s said before he and Rachel were Nexus 7s. That’s why they didn’t have the super strength and possessed the implanted memories. It also meant their life spans weren’t necessarily set.
