Simon West, director of The Expendables 2, is re-teaming with Jason Statham on a remake of 1986′s Heat (not the Michael Mann heist film).

Burt Reynolds starred in the original film, with a screenplay by Oscar-winning screenwriter William Goldman.

Expect a more modern, brasher version of the original film — less Reynolds mustache, more Statham chiseled jaw.

EW describes the plot:

“The thriller tells the story of Nick Escalante, played by Statham, a gambling addict who ends up in Las Vegas, ‘where he takes odd jobs providing “security” to support his addiction,’ according to the press release. ‘His professional and personal lives collide when his friend is brutally beaten, forcing him to take on the mob.’ “

Filming begins next February.
