The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 is not only the last film in the five-part franchise, but it is the best one. Filled with action, suspense, romance and humor, this movie had something for everyone.
Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has finally fulfilled her dream of becoming a vampire, and thus spending all of eternity with her love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattison). The audience is taken on a captivating ride as they witness the duality of a newly formed vampire’s mind – the attempt to control ferocious animal instincts and the need for human blood, while showing human emotions and compassion for loved ones. Stewart does a fantastic, and completely believable, job of portraying a new vampire. Even though Part 1 and Part 2 were filmed together, Stewart’s mannerism and composure as a girl and, then as a vampire are vastly different. As a vampire, she is self-composed, graceful, fast, and much more beautiful. From her slick brown hair, to her impeccable wardrobe, provided by fellow vampire, Alice Cullen (Ashley Greene), Bella’s transformation is evident on the inside, as well as the outside. She also delivers when it comes to playing a motherly role to her and Edward’s daughter, half-human and half-vampire offspring, Renesmee (Mackenzie Foy).
The film will yet again not disappoint teenagers and hopeful romantics around the world with the all-absorbing and blazing connection between Edward and Bella. For those that were entranced by the love scenes between a vampire and a girl in Part 1, there is no disappointment to watching vampire on vampire in Part 2. This film singlehandedly refutes the long-held believe that romance dies after marriage.
Making the newlyweds’ bond even stronger is the addition of Renesmee, who is instantly beloved not only by her parents, but by her vampire clan, her human grandfather (Billy Burke) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner), who in Part 1, disclosed that he imprinted on the tot, therefore, creating a life-long bond between the man-wolf and the little girl.
Renesmee is the center figure in the storyline of Part 2; since no one has ever heard of a half-human, half-vampire offspring, the uncertainty of her powers and her future channels the interest of the Volturi, led by Aro (Michael Sheen). Knowing that the Volturi will not listen to reason, but only bring trouble and massacre along, the Cullens scurry to gather their kin around the globe to attest for Renesmee, and protect her. Thus, the audience is introduced to a slew of new vampires, and get to experience new, awe-inspiring supernatural powers, such as the power to project thoughts and visions to others (Renesmee) to manipulating elements, such as water, earth, air and fire (Benjamin, played by Rami Malek).
The film finishes with a surprising plot twist that will shock even those that read all the Twilight books. However, before the end, the audience will be glued to their seats watching the greatest battle in Twilight history, when the Cullens and their clan stand up to the Volturi. The action and suspense of this epic battle, followed by a gut-wrenching montage of Bella and Edward’s past, is the perfect culmination to their story, which can be perfectly summed up by the title of Pat Benatar’s hit song, “Love is a Battlefield.”
