As “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” begins to tease details about what will be next in store, it is possible that Jamie Foxx will take on a persona that will electrify the audience.
Rumor has it that Foxx will play opposite of Andrew Garfield as Electro, the villainous counterpart to Spider-Man. Electro will be more than a physical match for the Wall Crawler because of his uncanny abilities to control one of nature’s forces: electrical power. Originally in the comics, Electro got his abilities from a freak lightning accident. In keeping with the tone set in the previous movie, the origins of his powers will most likely reflect that of Marvel’s Ultimate imprint, where his powers are the result of bioengineering.
Foxx has already some practice donning the suit of his masked counter part. On the first of this November, he tweeted, “Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well.”
He also has an emotional connection that would make him proud to perform in the movie, citing his daughter’s admiration of the Spider-Man movies as inspiration.
There is a bit of resurgence in this versatile actor’s career. Recently, the films he has been involved in have used the actor’s talents in more peripheral roles. It will change when the much anticipated Quentin Tarantino film starring Foxx, “Django Unchained” will soon be hitting theaters this December, and if his hopes are validated, will play an important role in an iconic franchise.
For those who love Spider-Man and the quality that Foxx brings, his words echo shared hope about the upcoming project: “Fingers crossed [that] it all works out.”
