Lawrence Kasdan & Simon Kinberg Hired To Write ‘Star Wars: Episodes VIII & IX’

Oh hi, Star Wars.  Nice to see you well again.  I guess a lot of that has to do with today’s announcement, which is:

Lawrence Kasdan, the screenwriter responsible for crafting the stories for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark, has been hired by Disney & Lucasfilm to pen the script for either Star Wars: Episode VIII or Episode IX.

Why the either/or?  Because yet another screenwriter has been thrown into the sequel trilogy mix:

Simon Kinberg, the guy behind Mr. and Mrs. Smith and the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, is going to write one of the two Star Wars movies that follows 2015′s Episode VII (to be written by Little Miss Sunshine‘s Michael Arndt).

Kasdan and Kinberg are also getting producer credits on the movies.

I’m sure once Disney & Lucasfilm officially announce the two writers, we’ll get a clear idea as to which writer is writing which movie.  I suspect Kasdan will write the middle chapter of the trilogy, as he most triumphantly did with Empire Strikes Back in the original trilogy.

Awesome news all around.

great news….now I’m excited. Just try to change Spielberg’s mind about directing, and we are onto something really, really, special!

Forgive me if I careless about Simon Kinberg. He has penned relativley unimpressive movies. OMG “This Means War” yes please mess with Star Wars now.

His work on this means war was rewritten by several other writers. But he only got credit over them because each writer was only given sections to rewrite. This happens all the time in Hollywood and people need to stop judging work which has been reworked by so many different writers. (Speed was much better because Joss Wheadon rewrote it and got no credit. Same goes for The Rock, which was rewritten by Jonathan Hensleigh and Quentin Tarantino)

What about him is impressive to you? xXX State of the Union? Jumper? X-Men the Last Stand? None of these films scream quality writting.

Kinberg!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! The man that crapped out turds like X3:Last Stand, XXX2 and Jumper is the luckiest hack in the world. He keeps getting chances others dream of on a quarter of the talent. Fail.

On a higher note, Lawrence Kasdan, HYFR!!!! Wrote the best entry of the original series as well as “Raiders”, that’s winning there. Have him write VIII and IX.
