There are so many rumors popping up daily about Star Wars and Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, it’s getting to be ri-goddamn-diculous.
This is what we know, or rather what I’m comfortable stating:
1 – Disney purchased Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion
2 – Toy Story 3 screenwriter Michael Arndt has been hired to write Star Wars: Episode VII
3 – Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg have been hired to write separate Star Wars films
I think that’s all that is confirmed.
It was originally thought, or assumed, that Kasdan and Kinberg were writing Episodes VIII and IX, respectively; but now we’re hearing something different via The Hollywood Reporter.
It seems an unnamed insider has told THR that Kasdan and Kinberg are writing Star Wars films, but not necessarily eps VIII and IX. You see, Disney CEO Robert Iger says they’d like to release a Star Wars film every two or three years, similar to the Marvel model. So, it’s possible Kasdan and Kinberg have been brought in to write films that take place in the same universe, but outside of the Skywalker arc.
I think this is great idea. I’d live to see the Star Wars film universe expanded beyond the saga of the Skywalker family. What do you think?
