Kasdan and Kinberg Are Writing ‘Star Wars’ Movies, but Not Eps VIII and IX?

There are so many rumors popping up daily about Star Wars and Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, it’s getting to be ri-goddamn-diculous.

This is what we know, or rather what I’m comfortable stating:

1 – Disney purchased Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion

2 – Toy Story 3 screenwriter Michael Arndt has been hired to write Star Wars: Episode VII

3 – Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg have been hired to write separate Star Wars films

I think that’s all that is confirmed.

It was originally thought, or assumed, that Kasdan and Kinberg were writing Episodes VIII and IX, respectively; but now we’re hearing something different via The Hollywood Reporter.

It seems an unnamed insider has told THR that Kasdan and Kinberg are writing Star Wars films, but not necessarily eps VIII and IX. You see, Disney CEO Robert Iger says they’d like to release a Star Wars film every two or three years, similar to the Marvel model. So, it’s possible Kasdan and Kinberg have been brought in to write films that take place in the same universe, but outside of the Skywalker arc.

I think this is great idea. I’d live to see the Star Wars film universe expanded beyond the saga of the Skywalker family. What do you think?

absolutely would love a movie that doesn’t focus on skywalkers. an all smugglers film would be cool.

Honestly, I’d enjoy a wide array of SW films, with all sorts of different feels. A bounty hunter film like a heist/crime thriller? A scary, dark flick with dark Jedi or the last handful of good Jedi being hunted by the Empire? A buddy flick with Lando and Han (either recast or as geezers) having an adventure, in over their heads? A light, comedic flick with Threepio and Artoo stumbling into the start of some war between rival aliens? An animated series that covers Han Solo’s first adventures, including his meeting and friendship with Chewbacca? A military Sci-Fi show where Luke is training up a bunch of new Jedi to stop and alien invasion? A political drama examining Leia’s attempt to reorganize the Republic, mired in paperwork, struggling to appease all the special interest groups?

Okay, maybe not that last one, but there are many, many stories that can be told in a galaxy far far away.

What does that even mean, “I would a live to also”? You and your middle name are so stupid. I know, I know: I shouldn’t pick on the mentally challenged. Sorry. (not really)
