The planning of the next “Star Wars” installment has driven everyone connected to or curious of the next film into frenzy, it isn’t soon before a new rumor is put under scrutiny.
After following the long list of possibilities such as Alfonso Cuarón, Darren Aronofsky, and even Steven Speilberg, the favorite is Mathew Vaughn. But, even that will be challenged. Cue the next ones on the list: David Fincher and Jon Favreau.
Even though writer Michael Arndt has been working on a script, there have been no details. With the writer locked in the project, finding the correct director to handle the futuristic visuals and keep the story interesting has yielded a vast array of names.
Star Wars has such a large and expansive cast which will only get bigger with the new set of movies, as well as the already existing ones in expanded continuity. David Fincher has handled a large cast before in “The Social Network” and it helped jumpstart the careers of some of the younger actors. Fincher is open to working with “Star Wars” albeit his only connection with Lucasfilm is working in an entry level position.
Jon Favreau does have the genre chops to pull it off as well having done the Iron Man films and “Cowboys and Aliens.” Favreau directing would give the movie a fun and accessible feel. It is also not to be forgotten that he does have Star Wars credentials: voice-acting in the “Clone Wars” TV series.
It will be quite a long time before the pretenders step aside and let the right person for the job through, but with such a high awareness for this movie there must be a director out there that can fulfill the promise of quality.
