Access Hollywood cornered George Lucas and asked him what his involvement will be with Star Wars: Episode VII. The answer, I think, will make most us us very happy.
Lucas:
“[If the filmmakers ask],‘Who’s this guy?’ I can tell them. I mean, they have a hundred encyclopedias and things, but I actually know a lot. I can say, ‘This is this and this is that.’”
Basically he’ll just be a consultant on the film, which we already knew. Personally, I think this is a good thing. I’m not as big a Lucas hater as most people, but I do think it’s time for him to pass the reigns of Star Wars on to a different team.
What does he think of Steven Spielberg directing SWVII? After laughing, Lucas said:
“I’m pretty sure he’d never want to do that!”
He’s right, of course. Spielberg has already said publically that he doesn’t want to direct a Star Wars film, which kind of sucks since he’d probably be perfect for it.
